Every reserve figure, every recovery factor, every metallurgical conversion that appears on TSM Hub was first written down by an engineer or geologist trained at one of these schools (or their predecessors). When we point you to a primary source — JORC Code, NI 43-101, an LME contract specification — that document was authored by professionals whose training paths start in the programmes listed above.

This page is a navigational reference, not a ranking. We do not score universities, we do not collect tuition or admission data, and we do not republish QS / Times Higher Education / Shanghai Ranking tables. For comparative rankings, consult those publishers directly.

Methodology & sources

Primary source for every entry: each institution’s own official page (linked from each card title). We list programme names, profile commodities and accreditation only as published on that page — we do not republish league-table rankings, salary surveys or affiliate course catalogues as fact.

What we include, by tier:

  • Tier 1 — University degree programmes: BS/BEng, MS/MEng/MASc, MPhil and PhD in mining engineering, extractive metallurgy, mineral processing, mineral economics or mining geology. This is the canonical pipeline into the industry.
  • Tier 2 — Chartered professional credentials: AusIMM, IOM3, CIM, SAIMM, SME, MMSA — chartered bodies that issue post-degree credentials (CP, CEng, QP) underpinning JORC, NI 43-101, SAMREC and SEC S-K 1300 disclosures.
  • Tier 3 — Finance & risk certifications: CFA charter and FRM — industry-standard credentials used across exchanges, trading houses and tokenization issuers. We list these because every reserve number ultimately reaches a finance professional.
  • Tier 4 — Exchange-run education programmes: LME, LBMA, CME, ICE, SGX, HKEX, JPX, DGCX and SHFE — short courses and certifications run by the exchanges themselves on their own contracts, clearing, warehousing and responsible-sourcing standards. We list the exchange’s primary training page only, not third-party resellers.
  • Tier 5 — Executive short courses on tokenization: MIT Sloan Executive Education, Wharton (via Coursera), Saïd Business School (Oxford) and MIT OpenCourseWare. We restrict this tier to programmes owned and issued by a top-tier university — not by independent instructors on aggregator platforms.

What we do NOT include: third-party MOOCs from unknown instructors, affiliate-driven course catalogues, sales-bootcamps, vendor certifications without a recognised credentialing body, and universities that only offer pure geology without an extractive specialisation.

Selection criteria: presence of a named mining / metallurgy / mineral economics department or institute (Tier 1); Royal Charter, Act-of-Parliament or equivalent statutory recognition for the issuing body (Tier 2–3); operation of a regulated exchange or commodity benchmark (Tier 4); university-owned content delivery (Tier 5). Geographic balance across the world’s main mining and finance hubs is a secondary filter.
